He/Him, Bi, 32. Draw-upon Sheep looking for friends.

I'm a RPer, Doodler, and Model Painter. Mostly focused on 18+ content so no minors please!

Currently courting my favorite crow-dog, Sens.

Feel free to say hello! I only bite a little bit ;3
(I'm not an expert by any means, but I do a LOT of reading and practice in this space, and I'm happy to weigh in if you want suggestions/opinions, with the caveat I'm not always right and everyone's GM style is going to be different, if you want an ear in the future!)

It's a big reason you see stuff like consent sheets, lines and veils, things like that nowadays. At a minimum, the players should all have an idea of what type of story this is, and if they want to pivot away from that, get buy-in to restablish group consent on that direction.

If a player is crossing a line, or clearly wants to explore elements close to them, discuss with them on how to make this work 1. in the context you are running and 2. In a way the other players can enjoy too.

Sometimes this means saying no, we're not playing that sort of game.

Your players should know what that tone is, and what the boundaries are. You're directing; it's great if your actors are improvising and having a lot of fun, but they shouldn't do whatever they want and ruin the movie or cause other actors to quit because they went too far.

When you're running a game, you set the tone. Basically everyone should know what TYPE of story this is, and what is and isn't okay by default (e.g. sexual themes might be allowed in a gritty horror game a la Silent Hill, but not something you want to explore in a typical fantasy adventure).

Yeah! GM/DMing is a skill like any other, takes practice and probably a little research to be your most effective.

As the DM, your control of the game is MOST important here. You're basically the director. Encourage your players to have fun, but you should have lines set in session 0.

Go ahead and be evil. Just make sure the GM and other players have buy-in so they can make that idea successful instead of a distraction or derailment from everyone's enjoyment. It won't work in every game or with every GM, but you have to ask and see.

Your GM is your best friend for making your character work and explore the themes and scenes and arc you want. The other players are a very close second. Just...work with them. Tons of problems can be solved by stepping back, talking, and stepping back in.

It's a living medium with shifting lines. As long as everyone agrees, awesome!

What you don't want to do is just start doing whatever you want without buy-in from the GM and other players. Now you're no longer collaborating, you're doing what YOU want without respecting the group's lines.
December 13, 2025 at 10:33 PM
Like sweet your character might be going evil! Cool! Tell the GM so they can support that idea, or tell you where the lines are, so the game can keep going in a healthy direction. The other players will either consent, and help you further, or object, and might compromise.
December 13, 2025 at 10:33 PM
It's okay to leave the narrative space for a minute to make sure your decision or idea isn't going to wildly derail what the GM and other Players are collaborating on with you if there's a chance it might be disruptive or over the line.

You will have some games where the ground rules established at the start of your game might be worth challenging. Hit pause, discuss it with your GM and your group, and get their consent moving forward that this element will/might be included.

Assuming in context here we mean "What if a player wants to do 'evil' actions, explore themes of inter-party conflict, or cross a line previously established by the players (e.g. our party has a no killing rule, but I want to/my character wants to kill this guy)"

Critical internet infrastructure you've got here 🫡

I wouldn't say I have a favorite, but I recently learned why the Irish Potato Famine sucked even worse than assumed and it was fascinatingly horrible!

I largely enjoy mythology studies (which could be history? In a weird sense?) and the World Wars, given my wargaming background.

If all the players know from the start this is a theme that a player wants to explore, and is fine/fun with everyone, then awesome.

Think this only becomes an issue when it creates tone or consent problems. Set up for success in session 0 and enjoy the sparks <3

Honestly, I think you establish this in Session 0 and work to make sure your game supports it. Games like Baldurs Gate 3 handle this well: it's setup from the start with the intent you can play a "bad" person, and the narrative and mechanics support it.

Holy shit are you Tetsuya Nomura

Pants are a scam to sell more pants 😤

Probably belts too. The conspiracy runs deep...

Still rad as HELL 😎 Been getting a lot of private comments on how cool this comm is too from associates of mine, in case you wanted to know :3

Thanks again for the work Del!

They will undoubtly be the horrifically mishapen beasts of a fresh system I'm figuring out.

However personal opinion: you can run basically anything and as long as the pacing is good it works out.

Shamble forth my hideous (but tight and punchy) sessions!

Hope you get to knock the dust off soon!
