I love this series and am looking forward to the next season, but it’ll take a bit to shake off buried trauma and find a path forward. Ugh.

On the other hand, I’m filled with joy at the overwhelming positive public reaction to the show. Even straight hockey podcasters fell in love. While it won’t suddenly change reality, it’s a major cultural stepping stone. Finally a queer story that doesn’t focus on tragedy or HIV. (5).

I’ve never been in a relationship with anyone in my life with this degree of intimacy, and the quiet, domestic intimacy of episode 6 is quite literally all I’ve ever wanted. (4)

On top of all that, the incredible acting jobs from both Hudson and Connor were able to fully exploit longing, romantic connection, and a development of gay intimacy that feels so realistic and tangible that it caught me entirely off guard. (3)

First, Shane is the first character I’ve seen on screen that I’ve ever related to strongly. From his mannerisms, to his responses, to how he handled situations. It’s the first time I’ve been confronted with the fact that I may be high masking autistic. (2)
