It’s my birthday today! I’m reading Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland because I’m tired of my kids heckling me about being the grown ass woman that’s never read Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Review to follow.

I’m in love with all the rhododendrons and fragrant periwinkles in Halifax. I don’t see these nearly as much in Regina.

I fell and twisted my ankle while getting into the car to go to my book launch. Thanks @annabelt.bsky.social for having these book cakes made. So delicious! Stuffing my face with cake is proving helpful with the throbbing ankle. So is the glass of wine!

This is what I’m currently enjoying. It’s really not just one long essay.

It’s finally nice enough in Regina to sit on the deck. This moth has been keeping me company for the last five minutes or so, and I’ll feel lonely when she moves on to better places. #adandonmentissues

Otoniya J. Okot Bitek’s fiction debut, We, the Kindling! This book slapped me both ways and wounded me. And it healed me all at the same time. It’s about the lives of the girls who survived captivity under Kony’s LRA rebels. I’ll be thinking about this book for a long, long time.

Batshit Seven by Sheung-King has got me questioning myself about some of the things I often unwittingly do to be closer to whiteness and all its attendant privileges.

My first read for 2025 was Red X by @daviddemchuk.com. I loved its inventiveness, the breaking of the fourth wall (which doesn’t break the magic of the story). Loved the cast of interesting characters and how they take care of each other. And I’m definitely rewatching Let the Right One In tonight!

Every once in a while winter is truly gorgeous. Look at this happy chunky bunny. Or rabbit. Or hare?

Got stuck twice on my way to get my winter tires on. Now I’m in the line at Mr.Lube because many of us in Regina, Saskatchewan, like to pretend winter isn’t a thing until our cars become pucks and every road is a hockey rink. At least I have Danielle Dutton for company!
