@wordydave.bsky.social
Theatre artist and educator. Writer. Photographer. Word lover. I hide in my brain a lot; until I don't.
Ess-thetic here. My pronunciations are mostly US Pacific Northwest. But I'm also an actor and have used this pronunciation on stage; so it's been checked under fire (so to speak.)

(If you're curious, the second fact I usually offer up is the 200-250 books I read every year. This always freaks them out.)

This is my second semester at a new university; and this move has been HARD. But it's still true that there's no place I'd rather be than in front of each class. And it's never been more valuable to me that I share this fact with my students - and myself - at the start of each new course journey.

Second, having said that helps me through the rest of the semester on the inevitable difficult days. It's always there as a reminder.

I share two facts and the first one is always "there's no place I'd rather be than standing up in front of you right now. I love to teach." I tell them this for two reasons. First, I simply want them to know that I really care about the work I do with them.

I love those new word discoveries too! It happens to me about once every six months when I'm doing a crossword from the NYT puzzle archive. It's always a shock.
