My kids do Irish music (whistle, guitar and concertina) at the Gaelscoil and it's just such a wonderful community. Kids flying around everywhere, joyous music in the air, so lovely!

When I'm king the airlines will measure you in a box like a cabin bag and it's free exit rows for anyone over 6'4".

This is absolutely wild. I’m on a cross country flight. We are being diverted midway through to Denver. The reason? Some dude is sitting in the exit row who didn’t pay the $155 fee and he refuses to move back to his seat.

I think "the mats" were actually the most terrifying part of it. One inch thickness of old, hard, rubbery padding to protect you if you fell 15 feet.

One of the biggest weaknesses Reform has is the sheer number of people it needs and working out if they're even vaguely suitable. Trying to recruit 5k candidates in 6 months probably isn't going to work - loads of them will be totally inappropriate, and there will be a rolling media frenzy.

And if you turn them into HMOs don't you make it impossible for families to live there? Cutting supply on that front increases prices for them as well. Just seems like a trade off/choice, rather than a no brainer.
worklesshard.bsky.social
Doesn't seem that unreasonable to me to say "we'd like to preserve family homes" - don't you want a mix of different tenure types? Isn't that good for ensuring a broad social mix, long term economic base, creating a sense of place etc?

E.g. Costiuc's party (referred to in the article, never previously elected, got 6 seats) has a Facebook page with 500k followers (MD pop = 2.4m) while PAS (in gov, 55 seats, 50%) has only 100k. If you could easily see growth, and origin, it'd be a signal of authenticity (or not).

It should be easier to see when an account is new, when it follows and is followed by lots of other new accounts, what their follow growth pattern looks like, a breakdown of where their content is viewed etc.

It'd be relatively easy for platforms to build some transparency tools to help with understanding accounts, but they won't do it on their own, so they need to be forced to.

💥🔎🇷🇺 Our analysis reveals the scale of Russia’s massive propaganda offensive in Moldova: in 3 weeks, 9,900 TikTok videos were published and generated over 93 million views, created with artificial intelligence. Yet despite Moscow’s efforts, the pro-European PAS secured 50.2% in the Sept 28 election.
24/7 Russian Propaganda Blitz Hit Moldova Before the Elections - VSquare.org
Moldovans had faced months, if not years, of an information onslaught at levels beyond what just about any society has faced. In the end, the pro-European ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) w...

Not at all saying UBI for artists is bad, but it's an "Ireland still has big tech/pharma revenues" policy. It's symbolically great in a "cost of everything, value of nothing" era. But boy is it gone without warning at the first sign of trouble.

Actually... from my reading of the artists' basic income report, the government did not earn money back from the scheme (although its costs were offset 37%)

Most gains were societal and came from putting the artists' improvements in wellbeing in € terms

(Yes, a 22 year old on Facebook - they exist, and they do numbers with this sort of thing).

Not exactly surprising that the 22 year old Reform councillor who got put in charge of Leicestershire Council's adult social care, then got sacked a few months later because it was "a bit much" is an Facebook AI political slop poster.

Actually, this is probably ok. With the "all time" spending reports (still there), you can get page IDs. Those + "ALL_ADS" API queries should still work?

Linkedinese for "I went to a conference".
worklesshard.bsky.social
The measure for "Labour conference success" was whether Starmer would make a speech that changed the narrative on his leadership, which he did. What's the yardstick for "Tory conference success" at this point? Hard to think of one. Are they not even trying to manage expectations?

That first company looks (on LinkedIn) to have 2-10 employees. Quite a big contact for a micro-enterprise?!

The shots where he just sits still and looks different kinds of sad. (My buddy did all the incidental music, so I have an extremely vested interest in people liking this movie, but it really does feel like a bit of a modern classic).

Meta ends (at least for now) political ads in the EU today. Per their ad library data, they've run nearly 11,000,000 different political, social and issue ads in the EU since 2018 and made around €800m from them.
