Doomwatch series 2 episode 1
An old, sepia-toned picture of a man in a chicken suit. It's really very detailed and well made, the illusion is only shattered by his regular human face sticking out. No beak or anything.

Thanks to podcasting, I now have a Clannad earworm.

RIP, John Woodvine. A very fine actor, and son of South Shields

A friend has just sent me the Sounds Readers' Poll from the end of 1985. It's a dense text. I think you might like this @whenisbirths.bsky.social

I vomited throughout the day. Terrible case of food poisoning meant I literally spent the whole ceremony throwing up into a bucket. The tremendous puking only died down around the time Saturday Night Fever aired on ITV.

Describe your Bluesky account in a single image.
A scene from the film Mr Deeds Goes to Town. A man in a three-piece suit is addressing an audience and points at a large graph which displays the labels Abnormal, Sane or Normal, and Subnormal.

BBC4 is showing an episode of Nai Zindagi Naya Jeevan featuring a quite intense and slightly spiky interview with Dilip Kumar. It’s fascinating but I wish they’d also show a more run-of-the-mill episode from the mid-70s for the real “Sunday morning when I was eight“ nostalgia rush.

Is the right to protest in the UK “ancient”? Feels like a relatively recent hard-won right.

Tonight I watched Doctor Who: The Beast Below which I remember being poor, but I really enjoyed it, and now I’m reading Vineland which I remember being disappointingly poor *35 years ago* but I’m really enjoying it. Maybe past me was an even bigger idiot than present me.

I love this series of articles by Simon and more than happy to contribute some cash to keep them going. I particularly like the references to the physical nature of the books. The Three Doctors was indeed a chonky unit.

Ha! I know if I listen to Andrew’s podcast I’ll become obsessed with it and I just don’t have the time at the moment. A pleasure deferred.

I've just realised you can just see @whenisbirths.bsky.social's new book on the right of the photo underneath the remote control.

I only visited Cockfosters once for the same reason only on the Tube. It was snowing then as well, but I had no Who location consolation.

I enjoyed watching Planet of Evil Pt.2 on its 50th anniversary. "If water you see, then Ealing it be."

It's days like this when I'm grateful Shirley knitted me a blanket.
A cold and bewildered old gentleman wraps up warm in a hoodie and a knitted blanket.
