How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

And when those new coercive powers are introduced, then what follows will prompt another round of more coercive powers for the state, and then another, and then another.

The UK is trapped in an illiberal spiral.

The government want more coercive powers for the state against protests, and the main opposition party wants more coercive powers for the state against migrants.

Our political-media culture continues in a loop where the response to every perceived problem is yet more coercive powers for the state.

New findings on young Europeans:
🌡️ Awareness is high, but concern/willingness to act vary by gender, education & country.
🎓 Higher education=stronger activism.
💶 Willingness to pay has declined.
🌍 North/West more active than South/East.
🔬 Trust in science strong, but “tech fixes” aren't enough (3/)

Do you remember Twitter/X before it went off the rails?
Not too long ago it was a useful digital town square for public debate. We used it to track public opinion when the UK Emergency Active Travel Fund was introduced in May 2020
