Congratulations to the #1 ranked @db.cs.cmu.edu PhD student Wan Shen Lim (@wslim.bsky.social) for successfully passing his doctoral defense. Wan has been working on hard AF database research with me for the last *nine* years at CMU (undergrad+grad). He also hates chickens.

Trump's whole M.O. is to blame the victim and celebrate the criminal. No one should be shocked by this anymore. The pattern's always been right there in front of everyone.

The roads in Pittsburgh are horrible today due to yesterday's snow storm, and there's no real reason for them to still be at this point other than our corrupt, outgoing mayor is petty and making everyone who didn't vote for him pay. Stay safe out there!

Our elected officials didn't take the position to solve the world's problems. They took the position to see what they could benefit from them.

It's wild to me that out of all the sci-fi movies I enjoyed as a kid, 1984's Runaway starring Tom Selleck and Gene Simmons would be the one to best predict the state of robots today.

Amazing. You can start an AI company and train your models by exploiting all the IP of another company regardless of any copyright and then turn around and sell your AI back to that same company at a premium price, essentially licensing their own content back to them.

Maybe this should've been the year of: Everything is so bad rignt now, but the promise is HUGE! It's amazing how much can be sold on this premise.

It's kind of offensive to call them the Architects of AI. I've been in a room with John McCarthy, Oliver Selfridge, and some of the other true architects of AI. These folks on the cover are more the pushers of AI, or the salesman of AI. Perhaps the PT Barnums of AI. But certainly not architects.

Last year donnie was Time's person of the year, as he represented the billionaires who ran the country to get him elected in 2024. This year's Architects of AI represent the corporations now running the country without any regulation due to that billionaire investment. Success! Time nailed it.

47 Kennedypox outbreaks across 43 states in 2025. This one’s just the latest getting the media’s 24 hour news cycle focus. Be careful out there!
The measles outbreak in South Carolina is “accelerating” with no end in sight following Thanksgiving and other large gatherings, state health officials say.
South Carolina measles outbreak is 'accelerating,' driving hundreds into quarantine
Some students who remain unvaccinated are now in a second 21-day quarantine since the beginning of the school year.

It's so weird that the internet cites March 2000 as the dot com bubble bursting. That must be a looking backwards, hindsight report. I was there, and it's not what I experienced. College campuses were overrun with recruiters in fall of 2000...

My hunch is the bubble will pop in January and stocks will crash rapidly downward similar to what we experienced in 2001. It might not be then, it could happen later, but when it does happen, I'm 1000% sure we'll be told it's Biden's fault.

I don't think people generally think of it this way, but when it comes to social media and AI, the government lets corporations test its products on us and our children. There is no online EPA and the pollution flows freely. Be careful out here folks.

Interesting article.LLMs were built for unstructured data, but turns out they can work well with structured too, especially if the structure is a graph. towardsdatascience.com/why-llms-are...
Why LLMs Aren’t a One-Size-Fits-All Solution for Enterprises | Towards Data Science
LLMs are a seamless way to find value in your unstructured data, but the truth is, there is so much more value hidden within your structured data. This post explores what LLMs are (and aren’t) optimiz...

I'm seeing a whole lot of this out in the field these days. The tools may vary, but at a high level, LLMs are being used to take unstructured data & give it structure in a knowledge graph, thus making information accessible and reusable in new, exciting & very useful ways medium.com/neo4j/from-l...
