A friend, to me, about this video of the #NHLJets stick-tapping for Kyle Connor:

"Why does it make me think of puppies wagging their tails?"

Honestly... It might be the exact same thing.

As someone who moved back to Winnipeg to raise my family, I completely agree! #KFC #GoJetsGo

Kyle Connor on the role his family played in choosing eight years:

"You've got to start thinking of other people too in this scenario. I think Winnipeg is a great place to raise a family."

Connor and his wife, Ally, welcomed a baby into the world in March.

"I wouldn't want to try to win a Stanley Cup with another group of players."

You're exactly right and I've dm'd my editor to have it fixed. Thanks Adam.

Kyle Connor is now the highest-paid player on the Winnipeg Jets after signing an eight-year, $96 million extension.

Kyle Connor will receive multiple years of signing bonuses. Darren Dreger reported $41 million of the $96 million will come as signing bonus. That's a sea change. (A KC change.)

Winnipeg announces Kyle Connor's eight year, $12.0 million AAV extension.

There are substantial signing bonuses, as reported by Elliotte Friedman and Darren Dreger. This is a first for Winnipeg, as I've been writing at The Athletic leading up to the deal.

Connor is a long, long term Jet.

Elliotte Friedman and Darren Dreger both reporting that Kyle Connor and the #NHLJets made progress with respect to an extension today. Pierre LeBrun says to expect eight years.

Sounds like it could get done in time for the season, perhaps even tomorrow.

8 x $12.x, how would that feel?

Scott Arniel reiterates that Jonathan Toews is "day to day." Arniel says he's "hoping" that Toews plays on Thursday.

In the meantime Winnipeg maintains some extra roster flexibility, with Toews designated a non-roster injured player until his return.

Toews practiced today.

A lot of people asking about what "injured, non roster" means.

AavcoCup dug up the CBA language here.

I believe I can confirm the important takeaway: Toews would be eligible to play Thursday if he returns to health. No seven day wait required.
aavcocup.bsky.social
Here’s CBA language on injured non roster. Unlike IR there does not appear to be a min 7 day stay. That’s probably what the delay was about (is he eligible or not) since Toews was injured on Oct 3. I believe he would now still be eligible to be activated for the opener. On regular IR he would not be

Winnipeg starts the seasons with Jonathan Toews and Adam Lowry designated as "injured, non roster" players.

Cole Perfetti and Dylan Samberg are on injured reserve.

Nikita Chibrikov, Brad Lambert, and Parker Ford all on the roster.

Could change before G1 if Toews gets healthy.

Jonathan Toews believed to be a late addition to the #NHLJets IR, via Puckpedia. Toews practiced with the team on Sunday for the first time since tweaking something in preseason.

That leaves Parker Ford and Brad Lambert on the Jets roster to start.

We'll see how Winnipeg looks at practice.

My best guess is that a forward I don't know about needs IR and that they're keeping everyone.

Or perhaps needed to be evaluated today, with potential IR in mind.

It makes sense to me but I don't know if I'm right or who it would be.
wpgmurat.bsky.social
Why?

I don't know.

I wondered about Scott Arniel's reference to "walking wounded" in today's story at The Athletic, thinking it was -possible- that Winnipeg would put one more player on the IR and keep everyone.

(Worth restating: I don't know.)

The #NHLJets are one of these teams. Not expecting their announcement until the morning.

We think that in the next CBA there should be a fine for teams who have not put out a press release with their opening rosters within 3 hours of the filing deadline.

As I understand it, yes that would be possible if Heinola cleared.
