Matthias did try to change the system he was born into for the future generation—but Sylvain is able to succeed his father

With how Felix and Rodrigue are two polar sides of chivalry, Matthias and Sylvain are two sides of the same coin wtr to wanting to improve foreign relationships with Sreng

Honestly, I don’t think it’s a stretch to state that Matthias prolly *also* wanted to minimize the dependence on Relics as well

- Both want(ed) to better Sreng relationships
- Both are/were extremely close to their King
- Both share the same flaw of pushing the people they hold close away!!!

Matthias became jaded from the loss of his wife + unborn child, king and firstborn while Sylvain clings onto his optimism
