They can live as large as any sane human could want with a fraction of their wealth. After the first $100M, it's less about a luxurious lifestyle & more about counting coup on the rest of us and the political power vast wealth gives them. Some, like Trump, have gone beyond that to political sadism.

AOC has done this. During the shutdown, her volunteers visited elderly and disabled people to check on them and bring groceries. If Trump did it, he'd give them gold-painted busts of himself.

What's the point of being rich enough to be a Lotus Eater and spending his time rage-tweeting and wrecking the gov? You'd think DJT could be lounging on a yacht in international waters with a couple of cute 16-year-olds. He's not even smart enough to enjoy his vices.

Perfect strikes? Says who? How were the effects evaluated and by whom? Of course, if Trump gets somebody killed, they retroactively become terrorists, no matter who they were.

The main reason for separating church and state was to protect Christians from each other. There had been pogroms, and conflict with Muslims in Spain and Eastern Europe. But for centuries, religious wars and persecution in Europe and in the Colonies had been mainly Christian-on-Christian violence.

I grew up in NYC long ago in a Jewish-Irish neighborhood. We always stopped at the "Jewish Delicatessen" on our way home from Sunday mass to get Irish blood pudding and the NYT. Cultural enrichment at its tastiest. Also, bagels and cream cheese.

Nobody except Kash Patel has read the entire corpus of Epstein docs. We know he did because he assures us there's nothing in them that incriminates Trump. But for us non-speed readers, this is a great opportunity for an AI to make its chops by reviewing them and generating articles of impeachment.

Has this guy ever watched The Expanse?

I can't think of a single foolish or malign thing Trump has done that someone else hasn't done before, except for promoting infectious diseases. As far as I know, this is original - a President waging biological warfare against his own people.

Supposedly, it was to make him less conspicuous than riding a Suburban. Now that everybody knows, it reminds me of when the NYPD bought a fleet of ~1000 Chevy Novas for plain clothes use to blend in with civilian traffic. Gangsters began to call detectives "Nova cops."

It's easy. Just take every really awful idea in the history of US politics, put it in one platform, and you have the modern Republican Party. Except for being in favor of infectious diseases. That seems original.

Repubs: We don't have the guts to go after Trump, so we'll take a whack at Mike and see how it goes over with MAGA. If we don't get too many death threats, we might think about having a concept of a response to a couple of the more insane things the Orange One has done.

Trump could swear to back them with his hand on a 16 yo girl's head and they still couldn't Trust him.

We aren't going to change Trump. What we need to know is how badly this affects his supporters in the House and Senate, and other Repubs who are considering running. Only if they see him as a threat to their political careers can we hope for significantly better times before 2028.

I'm not the biggest Joe Biden fan, but I would love to see the class renamed the "Biden Class" while Trump is still alive. (Assuming it's real and the ships actually work.)

Researchers born in Poland? I'm surprised they haven't been deported. No one tell ICE about this.

I know little about Coolidge. But Wilson was definitely a hard-core racist. I'm surprised DeSantis doesn't rate him more highly. Wilson was a segregationist inside the USA, and self-determination internationally was for white folks.

On the left, we often criticize the NYT. But what other media organization has the Times' resources to fight back against Trump and the inclination to use them?

I've watched & read a number of stories and discussions about the US political future. I can't remember a single one that treated climate as a significant issue. Sometimes it gets mentioned briefly in connection with insurance rates.

Natural Variation is getting out of hand. Contact your favorite deity or personification of nature (e.g., Gaia, or Mother Nature) to demand reasonable accommodation to human stupidity. Or, we could just stop burning fossil fuels.
