It was honestly a little overkill, the contract was 10+ pages and most of the ones I saw were about 1 and half. But I thought it was important to set a standard of professionalism to her because I cared about her success. I've worked in regulated businesses and have seen🧵

So when it came down to discussing an exchange of money for feedback on her second book; I took it seriously. I did a search and found a pretty in-depth contract, customized the payment amount, etc and even signed up for a 30 day Docusign trial to make it official

to consider publishing a book. She also taught me the thing that I had handed out so freely was a skill and if I took it more seriously and freelanced, I would be a developmental editor. Because the grind of publishing has never been my dream, I had never looked into it🧵

This reminds me of something that happened a few months ago. A friend of mine wanted me to read a book and give her thoughts so I did. She wrote a second, and wanted me to do it again, and this time pay me. This friend is the one that encouraged me 🧵
