Totally agree. IMHO, although the stakes are higher, failure is a teaching opportunity. Getting up again after being knocked down is a skill they need to learn as well.

In my experience, writers always appreciate feedback.
That being said, if your 1-2 sentence blurb amounts to "we liked it but not a good fit now" or "it's good but in the end not for us," consider adding this language to your letter (if needed), to avoid the extra reply-response legwork.

Concur. To add insult to injury, AI is almost always talked about in glowing terms, so students don't learn how unreliable a tool it is. For years, we professors warned about Wikipedia's untrustworthy info, but AI gets a free pass.
