In Frankenstein, the monster threatens his creator: “I shall be with you on your wedding night.” Due to the monster’s supernatural existence, Dr. F cannot seek help: “Such a declaration would have been considered as the ravings of a madman.” This inspired Vernon’s dilemma in Mystery of a Dromedary
Once you see the sagacity of @kenfollettauthor.bsky.social for using the face mask to symbolize where one stands on science and politics - in a book from 2012 about the bubonic plague - you can’t unsee it. Well played, Mr. Follett.

Hoping people around the US aren’t jumping to conclusions about LA based on 2-3 minutes of video footage. There’s a lot more peace and civility, which doesn’t make for exciting news stories. Newsom’s video message this week was truthful. King TACO needs to gtfo

The Phantom Tollbooth was my favorite book as a kid, and one of the reasons was its fantastical illustrations. Thank you Jules Feiffer for enriching my childhood with your imagination, and may your passing bring new life to your cartoons and their messages

We're home again, and bracing for another windy week and another wave of dangerous, partisan-fueled misinformation and scapegoating. We truly appreciate everyone's kind words and offers of assistance, and we couldn't be more thankful to be safe

Our small family made it out of Pasadena safely, and our house is in a safe location. Our hearts go out to everyone experiencing loss at this time, especially in Altadena, Palisades, and Sylmar

There are no rules in this no man’s land between Christmas & New Years.

Just go nuts.

I think of this quote whenever I detect a student, or even myself, fearing failure. What we’re really afraid of is how great we can be.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us”

Guilty of contributing to this trend. But I haven’t jumped on the Guinness bandwagon… yet
Tinned fish has surged in popularity in the U.S. (elsewhere, it never went out of style). We tasted over 100 tins of fish from eight countries to find our favorites. nyti.ms/3Du0smG

Sitting at about 8 so far (but James Michener's The Source and Ken Follett's World Without End accounted for over 2000 pages and 75% of my time). My wife is over 70 😆 #booksky
While I'm happy to have read more books than 99% of Americans, this is actually really sad. What percentage are you currently at? #BookSky

Mystery of a Dromedary has reached many milestones since it was first published in July 2024, but its first sale in a brick-and-mortar bookstore has finally happened. Not to mention the positive reviews that keep still rolling in. #booksky
