Phone calls that don’t end in Goodbyes.

No wait! That’s movies and tv. Nobody ever talks on a phone in a book.

How about your month-old iPhone in a concert port-a-potty?

Definitely learned it until you got it right. Kids in small-town Illinois in the 70s didn’t get to sixth grade without decent cursive. Still can - but chose all caps 10 years ago.

Bill Bryson - Short History of Nearly Everything. Not hard core science, but they’ll finish it. They’ll laugh. They’ll learn. And they’ll like it a lot better than Strunk & White.

*(Although shoutout to “Omit needless words.” as one of the greatest chapters ever written.

I dog-ear pages I may want to re-read. I have a system where a small dog-ear angled toward the spine means something near the top of that page, and a larger fold aiming down means toward the bottom. A few years from now and I can find the parts I loved. You can see them with the book closed.

That decides it. Time for a re-read. Which will probably make me want to re-read The Talisman, too.

Question - original cut or try the 1,000-pager? Worth it?
