NHC will name Tropical Storm Jerry at the top of the hour. The system looks fine on satellite, but I'm more interested in that awesome looking line of clouds to its northeast.

Last year, I wrote about why EF-5 tornadoes are so rare.

It's likely that plenty of tornadoes produce 200+ mph winds. But it takes much lower winds to completely destroy most structures, making it difficult to find EF-5 rated damage.

Officials confirmed Monday that a June 20th tornado near Fargo, North Dakota, produced EF-5 damage. This is the first confirmed scale-topping twister since 2013.
