Here's a look at the current drought categories for the East Coast. Most of the Piedmont locations are in abnormally dry conditions with moderate to severe drought in tidewater locations and TN. We actually haven't had a normal amount of soaking rain events for anywhere in the region.

Here are the current winter weather warnings and advisories called by the National Weather Services in our region. It looks like about 70% of our forecast area is covered! Winter Storm Warnings are in pink, and advisories are purple.

In case anyone is wondering how I do things with snowstorms, I usually make a total of two snowfall forecast maps. I make a draft map 48 hours before the event starts, then a refined map (if needed) 12 hours before the event starts. Forecast map will be out tomorrow night!

SREF forecast for probabilities for snow >1". Note that this model doesn't go all the way through the event, so chances will be higher for folks in NE NC, VA, Eastern shore in future model runs.

Significant snowstorm anticipated for all of Tennessee, Southern half of Kentucky, Southern, Central, and SE VA, NC North of I-85/US-64 and lower Eastern shore for 10-11 Jan. Regional models like the Canadian RGEM (pic below) are starting to hone in on the storm. Could be 6" falling for many areas.
