I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that you already know what to expect in the second playthru and because of that, you are more privy to issues of certain things like a flaw in a boss fight you really like. Essentially the surprise factor isn't hiding anything you don't already know about.

I mean I wouldn't say no one likes how new cars look(The typical soccer mom must LOVE her brand new Ford Explorer lol), but yeah the average car just isn't visually interesting any more. Hell everything is kinda sterlized design-wise nowadays. I miss the 50s-60s weird style
