It's shockingly depressing going over my old grocery orders from 2021. Almost everything has gone up at least a 1 or 2$, even if they were only 1$ to begin with, and some things have just exploded.

The 2L of crappy store brand salsa was 8$. Now it's 14$
1kg of bacon was 18$. Now it's 31$ 😭

Saving this thought for later use: Canada doesn't have an immigration problem. But we do have a temporary foreign workers problem, because the cost of living is so high, and the system so open to abuse, that companies are using it as an excuse to not pay living wages to Canadians.

"It's okay. They don't go bad. Kids will still like them. It was an honest mistake"

-Me, suppressing rage, sorting through a huge pile of finished crafts my coworker was asked to prep the pieces for. I had printed 2-3x the number of designs I needed so the kids would have options on craft day....

Aside from that, what's fascinating about all sf tech musings is the lack of exploration about how these changes will impact us socially, mentally. The big tech bro oversight.

So I've had a cold and haven't taken my ADHD meds in over a week. I took half a dose today and have done three loads of laundry and emptied two doom boxes in the basement before noon. I guess they are still working....

@mayakern.bsky.social you might like to know that your desert sunset skirt is a big hit with toddlers. Two separate girls under the age of three specifically got my attention and went "oooooh pe-ey" at my skirt 🥰
The other 4 or 5 comments I got about it were less adorable, but no less enthusiastic.

I just spent 20 minutes watching a gang of adults testing just about every book on the shelves for our geocache. The clue is about a-z books. The 10ish year old girl with them went on the catalogue and then asked me where the dictionaries were. Kids are so smart.

✨Canada Clearance + Blowout ✨
Hey all! We have some good news and some bad news about our Canadian fulfillment center

The good news: We added some new items to clearance, and reduced prices on some old items that have been in clearance for a long time!

I read a Robert J Sawyer book ages ago where it was discovered that most of humanity were incapable of thought but very good at faking it through social cues, and therefore easily susceptible to mob rule and manipulation. For quantum science-y mind reasons.

I almost killed one of the kids in my #D&D program today. Luckily they were not the only target of these dinosaur's attacks. I did utterly demolish their summoned elemental in one round though......

Hey All: Google is pulling the "automatically on for anyone over 18" bullshit with Gemini that the Dropbox did for its AI, but I can't afford to ditch Google Drive/Docs/Workspace.

The best books are the ones I have to buy twice because the audiobook is too slow, but if I can't listen to someone else read it to me while I drive\work\eat I won't get anything else done.

In related news, I finally finished my re-read of the Stormlight Archive and have started Wind and Truth. 😅

I really miss real TV shows. Like, episodes running almost weekly for 9 months out of the year for several years in a row. There was always something on and it felt like something substantial to look forward to. Now these 6-10 episode seasons are a flash in the pan every few years.

M was very upset that piano lessons were smack dab in the middle of prime trick-or-treating time. But it turns out that if you go a bit later, anyone with candy left who are ready to be done for the night will basically fill your bag as they turn off their lights. Biggest haul ever 😆

I gave my wanna-be murder-hobo group of library D&D kids an endless flow of zombies and ghouls for a low planning Halloween treat.

I'm usually a mean DM that doesn't let them destroy everything they see without consequences, so I think they enjoyed it. 😆

a friend asked me to latinize "weird hill to die on, but at least you're dead" a while back. I came up with

'super colle mira mori sed quidem mortuus'

which happens to fit the meter of that one song from mary poppins extremely well.

for some reason that's in my head today.

I'm absolutely flabbergasted. My husband of 18 years just told me, all serious like, that he has written 3 or 4 novels worth of fan fiction, on and off over the last 8 years, and he wants to start again but the fact that he never told me made him feel blocked and he wanted to get it off his chest 🤯

If you want proof that tabletop games support literacy and learning, a kid who comes to my D&D games at the library made me an adventure! It's got 7 pages, multiple scenario options, a map, and a loot page. I have certainly run a game with less. It's so cute I could just die! 🥹
