This makes dragons very selective about where they nest, as ambient energies can result in mutations in the egg, and if the egg is lost or stolen, it may never hatch at all, or become some kind of hybrid creature.

You should look at this Synth Kobold and their big long tail they can make bigger at will. All squishy and filled with thermally controlled hydrogel. Made to be very normal about.
