Where did I say solar is bad? It's just not happening remotely fast enough to avoid 2 degrees of warming in the next few decades (or faster), which will be very bad.

And we're on a pace for 3 degrees of warming, which probably means the end of civilization as we know it.

He's a big account and almost never talks about climate change (which is fine--not every poster has to cover every issue) except to share positive stories about solar panels.

This creates a false illusion that things are going well on the climate-change front. They are not. Just the opposite.

For me? I genuinely don't care about my life. I care about the planet.

We're at 1.5 degrees of warming. 3 degrees of warming will end civilization. And every trend in terms of warming rate and rate of change of carbon levels is worsening.

There's nothing to be positive about.
January 21, 2026 at 5:34 PM
My point is that none of this is happening fast enough to avoid 3 degrees of warming. At 3 degrees of warming, you can kiss modern civilization goodbye.
January 21, 2026 at 5:31 PM
My dude, I promise I am doing more than you or most anyone you know to reduce my emissions.
January 21, 2026 at 5:30 PM
Plus feedbacks are starting to kick in that will amplify the warming effect of the carbon in the atmosphere.

Your constant optimism is wildly misplaced. Things are going to get much worse climate-change wise.

Electricity generation is 25-30% of total planetary energy usage. Even if that goes to zero carbon (and that is not happening in the lifetimes of most people reading this), we are still fucked because all of the other carbon sources are stable or increasing.

Oh, look, pedantry instead of honest engagement.

Fuck off.

Throughout human history, no new source of power has *ever* replaced an old on. They just add on.

Meanwhile, other sources of carbon like industrial and home uses and agriculture and land change are actually increasing, not decreasing.

There is literally nothing to be optimistic about. Within the range of plausible current outcomes, we are near worst-case scenarios.
January 15, 2026 at 2:14 PM
This is the problem with you uninformed people. You see a couple of articles about solar panels and decide that everything is going to be great. Meanwhile, after accounting for El Nino, last year was the hottest ever. CO2 and methane levels are at all time highs and increasing at record rates.
January 15, 2026 at 2:13 PM
Dude, we are nowhere near zeroing out those emissions from electricity generation. By 2050 we will still be emitting a shit-ton of carbon just for electricity. Ditto for the rest of the world.
January 15, 2026 at 2:13 PM
Where did I say that decarbonizing the grid was bad?

My point is that people on this site go nuts every time new data on solar in China or whatever comes out, ignoring the fact that emissions and temperatures are rising fast. We are heading to very bad outcomes. The data do not support optimism.
January 14, 2026 at 8:04 PM
If you follow trends in temperatures and emissoins, there is literally nothing to be thrilled about. Every metric that matters is getting worse.
January 14, 2026 at 7:23 PM
It seems like on one on bluesky understands that electricity generation is only 25% of US carbon emissions (30% globally).

Even if we zero that out--and we are many decades away from that happening--we are still in giant trouble because the other sources of carbon are not decreasing fast enough.

Idunno. I saw that video of Greg Bovino (a model for Sean Penn's character if there ever was one) in Target, and he walked like a normal person.

In the movie, someone for some reason thought it would be a good to have Penn walk like a stick figure. Just bizarre and it detracted from the film.

Very mediocre film with a cartoonish and silly villain.

Blaming the richest people is a bit of a red herring.

Even if you zero out those peoples' emissions (hopefully by governments' confiscating everything they own), we're still in big, big trouble.

As soon as they got their first paycheck, these guys were buying the biggest pickup truck on the market and the biggest house they could get a mortgage for.

When the next D president fires them all, they're going to lose everything.

That brings their all-time rate of doing the right thing up to 0.01%.

Being gracious--you're much more forgiving than I am.

Some issues you have to just admit you were wrong on. There's no gray area.
