On being Hong Konger Canadian in Canada. Also on Christianity, intersectionality, psychology. Not posting about Hong Kong so much as being Hong Konger Canadian.

The thing is, for those who embrace hyphenated identities, there's no judgement for those who don't. This doesn't really have anything to do with being on the political left or right in particular, but there are those on the political right who have made that distinction.
I recently realized that some on the political right in Canada attempt to delegitimize or silence hyphenated identities — a tendency not mirrored by those outside the right. If you identify as ___-Canadian, you’re often accused of engaging in “identity politics.”

Joe Tay's influence by American Christian Nationalists has been evident in a couple of recent episodes he has released on YouTube lately. Chinese Christians in Toronto are at the risk of being just like him, and I don't think Christians are doing enough to counter that.
Reviewing some of the livestream videos of the protest in Toronto, they were also chanting Charlie Kirk's name.
Just realized that Toronto Chinese Presbyterian Church stripped the Chinese part of their name from their English congregation.
I think Evangelical Chinese Christians in the GTA tend to lean toward White supremacist expressions of Christianity, and doubt that this is going to be that different...
In my opinion, the title is rather provocative. The hosting organization and church are both decidedly in the more "conservative" stream of Christianity, and these churches are hotbeds for right-wing ideology.

I’m officially scared.

Because of this ONE tweet being afraid of potential reverberations of right wing political violence from this — something many others have said — I’m now the first result on a website called “charliesmurderers.”

This is putting me in genuine danger.

What the fuck do I do
I feel sorry about this, yikes
I've been feeling quite a bit of news fatigue and haven't been as active in following what has been happening around the world. Even though we are here in Canada rather than the US, I don't feel that great about the state of the world.
Watching "Shiny Happy People" series after looking a bit more into the story of James Dobson.
