I was at a Chinese Buddhist temple in the Greater Toronto Area, it brought up mixed sentiments about it. It makes me wonder about the extent to which identifying Chinese is inherently potentially prone to settler colonialism.

I recently realized that some on the political right in Canada attempt to delegitimize or silence hyphenated identities — a tendency not mirrored by those outside the right. If you identify as ___-Canadian, you’re often accused of engaging in “identity politics.”

Joe Tay's influence by American Christian Nationalists has been evident in a couple of recent episodes he has released on YouTube lately. Chinese Christians in Toronto are at the risk of being just like him, and I don't think Christians are doing enough to counter that.

James Dobson's death is something that perhaps bring a series of mixed emotions for those of us who were brought up Evangelical. Even if our Chinese Christians parents did not justify spanking us, teachings like those Dobson and Focus on the Family promoted authoritarianism which hurt many of us.

I'm probably late to this, but James K. A. Smith's book "How to Inhabit Time" can be used to make a case for insight which would be a potential outcome of psychotherapy.

China Graduate School of Theology (CGST) has recently planted a Toronto campus, previously known as a non-denominational Evangelical seminary in Hong Kong. It has had relatively conservative roots. The current leader of Toronto campus has a history of anti-LGBTQ+ views.

Even while Chinese Evangelicals in Toronto don't like Recommendations 429 and 430 from the Finance Committee House of Commons Report, what's more troubling to me is their complete silence on other more important issues.

In discussing the necessity of the atomic bombs on Japan with my Chinese Canadian peers, most of us said that both bombs were justified without batting an eye to the civilian casualties or alternative discussions about possibly not needing to use the bombs.
