anybody tried z.ai in anger?
not sure about the quality other than the claims; there is a more in-depth paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/2508.06471
but the pricing looks really hard to beat and you can just put it "under" the common tools

is it time to move to @lobsters?
the amount of LLM slop, astroturfing, sock puppeting,... in open channels is starting to get really annoying

TIL about #zswap "a compressed write-back cache for swapped pages, as a form of virtual memory compression". this will hopefully came in handy soon for performance :)
also there are zram and zcache (https://askubuntu.com/a/472227 has a comparison)
zram vs zswap vs zcache Ultimate guide: when to use which one
What the hell are they? How are they different (I've written my understanding in an answer below) In the Zswap system, when a page is evicted from the zswap to the actual swap is it stored in a

TIL about pyinfra — ansible but python instead of yaml and a lot faster
I'd be interested in faster but I'm not sure I see the full advantage in python; at least not for the simple examples they show

scoring rubric of #kubecon: content, originality, relevance, speakers, not-a-product-pitch. and no obvious LLM abstracts. sounds widely applicable

fizzy advertising itself as open source — no huge shitstorm yet. maybe it's different for new code-bases
PS: sane choice and a lot of similarities to the elastic license 😅

european bureaucracy: it "only" took 2.5 years to get a delayed flight paid out. and after all the costs (including a laywer) you only get 50%. but I'll still take the win 😉

PS: and I have an even older claim still under negotiations 🫠

fun #tls fact: why would you want your own certificate authority (CA) over a public one?
