Firefighter learning about leadership in the service
I’ve been laid up with an Achilles tear. Any advice? It’s probably gonna need surgery and I’m thinking Dr. Steinlauf. Any experience from anyone?

I will occasionally send a post for my beloved NHL Florida Panthers. That was an incredibly fortuitous goal at 2 secs left in the third. Bruins hate us.

I’m a captain at a South Florida fire department and I’m astonished that our industry teaches everything about fire, EMS, extrication, safety … but absolutely nothing about leadership. Our profession is failing due to lack of good leadership. Doesn’t mean that there aren’t good ones out there.

My Bluesky name is Xtrik8 because I love extrication. Here I’m teaching the next Gen firefighters how to get ppl out of a car that’s been mangled in an accident. I need to go on a diet :(

View from a firefighter. We all have issues stemming from the job. I’ve seen things that no one should have to see. I’m up running calls at different hours of the night. My sleep pattern is horrible. That’s why I’m posting at 0400 and I’m not on shift.

Seen a lot about private firefighters on Bluesky. Especially since the California fires are raging. There are volunteer, paid per call, government paid, and private departments. Thing with private depts, someone at the top (ie. corp. heads) need to turn a profit. This eats into the workers salary.

This is great advice and a goal for all fire service officers. We all know how to throw a ladder, perform a VES (VEIS), complete a primary search … we’re not often taught how to lead.

So this is for the fire service or anyone who wants to get into the fire service. Two issues that are neglected are cumulative PTSD and leadership classes. I would like open, respectful discussions on both. For leadership, one of my favorite spokespersons, Simon Sinek, will be featured.

Here’s a different way to dash lift. Use the integrity of the passenger compartment and the roll bar located behind the dash. It’s a no-cut, spreaders only lift. Work the hole where the wires come through. Get it big enough to get both tips in. Spread away!

Just a little car fire, nothing to see, move along … #firefighter #lovemyjob

RIT training, find a downed firefighter and drag them out. Rapid Intervention Teams (also termed Rapid Intervention Crews) are vital for safety in structure fires. #firefighter #lovemyjob

Fire behavior. Teaching the next gen about preventing flashover. The seat of the fire is raised by about 3’ to allow us to study the intense heat without getting scorched. #firefighter #flashover #lovemyjob

Okeedokee … I’ll introduce. I’m a 19 year, paid #firefighter that has also been trained in dive rescue, rope rescue, confined space rescue, building collapse rescue, extrication, and trench rescue. I’ve promoted to Captain. I’ve been an instructor in the above disciplines for 15 years. #lovemyjob

Easiest way to get a trapped victim out of a vehicle on its side. Roof flap. #extricate #firefighter #technicalrescue #lovemyjob

Learning how to support weight on top of another vehicle. This is more common than you think, it’s called an under-ride. Cars under buses, flatbeds, and semi-trailers. Then we can #extricate !!! Cutting away metal to save people is one of my favorite jobs. #firefighter #technicalrescue #lovemyjob
