The villains of the story were also weirdly absent most the story too, it's too easy to just forget about them, imo they should have been an ever present incomprehensible force, like unknowable gods constantly watching, constantly felt, but what they did made them feel too ordinary.

The characters were all kinda bland,I had a difficult time trying to understand them and by the time I got close they were dead.There weren't any unique personalities to grab on to like in the expanse where each member of the crew had something unique & vibrant about them,here it's a glaring absence

I don't think the puzzle of the book was that engaging, because it doesn't build on itself, revelations leading to new revelations, it kinda ends on a "I think I understand this maybe sorta" note
