The still-unnamed final book of Max Gladstone’s Craft Wars. It’s a culmination over ten years in the making, for a series I adore.

Interesting title translations: Firewalkers, Hunting/Killing Time Travelers, World of Innocence, and Walking to Aldebaran. (Well, Walking to Bixiu 5, which is the Chinese name for Aldebaran.)

I still laugh so hard at “Either that or Muriel’s having a really bad day.” (paraphrasing)

That’s the big reason I tend to find “other stuff like this” recommendations useless.

Aww, AXE was one of the rare events I really enjoyed.

It was less "created to" as "argued to have been created to by Druig, applying a deliberately selective and handwavey reading of the rules, because he wanted to manufacture a war as a political distraction."

I'm not talking about someone specifically seeking one person's comics. I'm talking about someone *browsing* a store. That thing that lots and lots of people do.

It needn’t be so black & white. A person could be sort of into a book’s premise already, and then seeing it’s by the guy who wrote stuff they like is enough further incentive to tip them into buying it. Think of the way one might react when seeing a movie trailer and noticing an actor they like.

…realized it wasn’t the case pretty quickly.
September 10, 2025 at 9:51 PM
I did initially wonder if that (alt Earth) was the case. For me, it’s because (1) there were references to real world gods and folklore figures, like Apophis and Koschei, (2) one of the earliest scenes is Tara having that brief vision of an alternate reality similar to our real world. Though I…

Huh? It doesn't say anything about Welles using it first.

And my source is that screenshot which you posted, which says the quote "is not from Orson Welles" and that "Orwell is the author of that specific slogan."
September 8, 2025 at 6:51 AM
We've already established that Orwell said it, not Welles. "Orwell is the author of that specific slogan."

I don't know what TDS is, but you're on a very different Bluesky than me if you think no one here talks about Trump. Also, what does any of this have to do with Orwell/Welles?
September 8, 2025 at 6:04 AM
I assume you think there’s some connection between that video and what we’re talking about. But if so, you’ll need to explain what. Right now you might as well be speaking in tongues.
September 8, 2025 at 5:36 AM
What does this have to do with anything we’re talking about?
September 8, 2025 at 5:21 AM
I don’t watch the X-Files, so I’m not sure what you’re getting at here.
September 8, 2025 at 3:04 AM
That screenshot doesn’t say Orwell took it from Welles, though. It says the quote isn’t from Welles, period.
September 8, 2025 at 2:41 AM
I don’t know what that screenshot is, but it’s agreeing with me, no?
September 8, 2025 at 2:36 AM
He didn’t, and I do. Feel free to cite a source to prove me wrong.
September 8, 2025 at 2:23 AM
I’m now mostly sure this is a bit, but in case it’s not…
1. Welles didn’t say that. George Orwell did, and he wasn’t a filmmaker.
2. What’s the relevance here?

Just FYI, the availability of Power Fantasy on Hoopla seems weirdly irregular. Vol 1 isn’t listed, Vol 2 is. In singles, issues 1, 4 and 10 aren’t listed, the rest are.

If you mean the post earlier in this thread, I think it's pretty clear there that the "ironic" label wasn't the part of the other person's analysis he was disagreeing with.
September 2, 2025 at 9:25 PM
To clarify, that it's ironic and that it's largely others' fault aren't mutually exclusive. Just the opposite. That's part of the irony -- that others subverted his noble aims into a horror.
September 2, 2025 at 3:27 PM
Oh, oops, didn't realize you were the same person as in that other thread. My bad. Well, in any case, I replied in the other thread explaining why I don't think those facts claim what you say they do.
