I've had good luck with recent codex models, especially if it sees some existing tests in the codebase first. And I'm betting anthropic's internal ci tests are at least 80% written by Claude.

Which is super sad given how easy it is to ask an LLM to write really good tests, just copy/paste an explainer you like to the model. Like this abseil.io/resources/sw...

Not sure how good for the soul, but iirc it's related to "mathematical maturity".

EE sophomores cover this in signals class while learning Laplace transforms. Of course they don't discuss Hilbert space, only "domain of integration", and it flies over everyone's heads...
