i've talked to a lot of people about this one but the only conversations that really hit, for me, were with people who had a good grasp on a language NOT from the indo-aryan language superfamily, well enough to think in it, and who had spent serious time living in another culture.

I love the Otto Sax story, but I am compelled to reply with a mention of the sarrusophone, a French competitor to the saxophone, back when it was new. It was like a double-reed version of the sax - so, we just missed having a whole family of big brass jazz oboes.

We do this with directors and producers in our household, eg "oh yeah, that's Werner Herzog, he narrated that dinosaur CGI thing you wanted to watch daily at age four"

I actually experienced this in links in my Chrome new tab feed. I always have lots of renewable energy suggestions, but one day I started seeing "This new tech DESTROYS solar in the US" storiesand it was about gas turbines or whatever 🤔 Constant use of the word "destroy" from many sources.

Thanks for this! it is Extremely My Shit, and I'm all out of My Shit That I've Already Downloaded due to being isolated in the basement w/COVID for days. So not only do I get to watch a cool docco, but I also get to sample the '70s BBC music, and pretend I'm Boards of Canada, you 100% made my day.

I like to make it in the crockpot, and I set up the crockpot in the basement sitting in one of the recessed windowsills, right in front of an exhaust fan.
I like the outdoor kitchen idea better, tbh, but the prep time and cost are rather higher than the crockpot/exhast fan combo.
