Oh my gosh, the OCR app failed to recognize "荊" (thorn), it was "判" (to judge, or to understand).
I hadn't even considered that the two kanji characters were similar before this.

The serialization period of Decathlon (1992-97) overlapped that of Arai Hideki's The World Is Mine (1997-2001). What a crazy manga magazine Young Sunday was!
