No wonder I've never seen it. Kanji dictionary only has one word using it! Probably only comes up in the very top level of the Kanji proficiency exam! Goodness sake! Why didn't the locals just use the usual Kanji for swamp if they were going with sawa?!

Looks like they are still completing the Meraker Line electrification tho apparently not too long to go now. Hopefully next time you can do this cross-border rail service.

The Eel. Fantastic Japanese film from the 90s. Actually visited the filming location in Sawara, Chiba Pref., (30mins by train from Tokyo's Narita Airport) in April.

Mmm this is interesting. News sites say Tokyo 9pm dep Aomori 9am arr next morning. On the tote bag I bought at Akihabara Stn shop in Tokyo in April with old Northern night train schedules it has this for the old Aomori "Hakatsuru" night train. Old Hakutsuru train significantly shorter journey time!

Actually Japan News (Yomiuri newspaper's English news service) says 2 classes and seasonal destination change. This is at odds with Sora and NHK. Who's right I wonder! japannews.yomiuri.co.jp/business/com...

Oh this is interesting. NHK has now changed their story info to like Sora say that it will be Tokyo-Aomori and deleted the seasonally changing destination. That's better, That's more like a regular train.

Actually I just remembered the beautiful Resort Shirakami scenic intercity trains in Akita-Aomori, though it's a hybrid DMU not a BEMU.

I've been on/seen two of JR East's BEMUs in Northern Honshu a couple of years ago, and took a JR Kyushu one in April though these are local regional trains rather than intercity.

Mmm interesting. Nice they are putting on the route to Pula. Looks like just going to use same design as existing Koncar DMU.

My favourite border. Cross the carpark from the Italian bus stop to the Nova Gorica Station and hoila! You just crossed from Italy to Slovenia! 😂 NZers can only dream of being able to cross an international border so easily! I think SZ have upgraded the trains since I did that.

I hope you will try the other, Japan, "M" i.e. Mosburger. I much prefer it to the American M. Has fresh lettuce for a start compared to the crap in the other one's burgers😍

Sent this piece of feedback to KR Great Journeys of NZ after taking the Southerner in May. Bit disappointed they haven't made a couple of changes to the service in October, especially stopping at Oamaru which looked lovely when passing through.
