I actually don't but I watch a lot of YouTube videos related to public transport/sad enough to read public consultations fully to understand the situation and how impossible everything is to get moving!

*plus you have got to factor in getting to the station on time for the train, and given it's not a metro like frequency, hoping it's not delayed/cancelled

a few billion pounds lying under his bed which could build an entire underground network for Leeds, but then would I want to ride on something funded by Musk? No!)
January 9, 2026 at 10:47 PM
To avoid these battles, and if 49ers are serious about improving Leeds Utd/the city in general, they should just get their hands out of their deep pockets and start digging underground and lay some tracks down there (I do often wonder if someone in the group knows Musk well and he could spare us...

where would the extra trains terminate south of Cottingley (no sidings or reversing points that I know of near there), the trains themselves would only be able to hold ~1000 people at a time, and there is the TRU on that line which often see diversions/weekend disruption. Not feasible!
January 9, 2026 at 10:42 PM
Not the demand for it given the long walk (20 minutes is still a long way when it's a 5-10 min train from Leeds, and it is tops 45 minute walk from Leeds). Might as well use the shuttle bus! Plus capacity limits given that 6/7 fast trains use that line per hour already... cont

I'd love to see how the battles between different public sector/arms length organisations surrounding compulsory purchases go. Police, council for P&R, plus private companies Planet Ice Hockey, business parks. And 49ers would have to instigate the purchase by Network Rail, NR have enough to do!

Yes, only one train an hour and once White Rose gets built it is closing

Falmer Stadium is a modern stadium built next to an existing railway line which already had a station. Elland Road has been around for a century plus. If it had a railway station built when it first opened then it would have worked. With the building works of the past 100+ years it is impossible now
January 9, 2026 at 10:20 PM
London is built to cope with large crowds and has a public transport system that is resilient and doesn't rely on 1 thing to work (frequent buses, national rail, underground/light rail). If something goes wrong up north then there's no backup option really.

And Falmer is out-of-town, ER is in city!

Perhaps a walkway with shuttle buggies for those not able to walk?
January 9, 2026 at 5:52 PM
Hasn't been used since the 80s though!

Looking at the satellite view there is not enough space for a train station, and it would cost £££ to clear some. And I don't think the police/industrial estates would want to up sticks.

The current hourly service pattern along that stretch of track is:
2x LNER
1x XC
4x Northern
Plus freight /1

Trams is the way to go as it is a blank canvas we have with no current infrastructure in place (perhaps we can have a tram running along the old viaduct!) but that is being held up by damned planning procedures, red tape and bureuaucracy!
January 9, 2026 at 4:05 PM
Yes I am in agreement that there is too much bureaucracy and red tape & it is infuriating but in this case there's just too much happening around Elland Road and Leeds station that it would take years to build something meaningful (with years of disruption to London trains in the meantime). /1

extortionate! No wonder why people drive and park near the stadium on a side street for free and have a bit of a walk to the stadium.

A frequent tram to the stadium would be much better as we can start from scratch, but that would get packed (as any tram would after a large event). Basically, walk!
January 9, 2026 at 3:52 PM
no room for a platform to accomodate 6 cars! It'd be 3 at best, halving the number of people. Basically the cost for it all won't stack up at all in cost/benefit analysis.

As for P&R, they do operate them on a matchday, certainly from Stourton, and it's a good idea in principle but the cost is /5
January 9, 2026 at 3:52 PM
bottleneck as it is so would there be enough space to have these extra trains (platform 17 is planned to be extended to have 6 coaches instead of 4, woop woop!), and where would they terminate the otherside of Elland Road? As if a station is going to be built off the mainline, there's certainly /4
January 9, 2026 at 3:52 PM
that wouldn't simply be enough with 600 seats + a say 400 more standing per train. 2 trains an hour, that's only 4000 people max getting to the stadium 2 hours before kick-off. And then it would affect the non-football train users if matchday specials can't be laid on, and if they can, Leeds is a /3
January 9, 2026 at 3:52 PM
So that's a train every 8 minutes or so. On a non matchday you could maybe have 1/2 Northern stoppers call there an hour without impacting things too much, of course those would be 2/3 car trains.

On a matchday 2 trains an hour with 2/3 car trains (6 at a max with 2 331's joined together) /2

The person interviewed in the video seemed rather sensible about it. Of course the viaduct is currently Network Rail property but the right noises have been made
January 9, 2026 at 3:36 PM
As I've said before any new station on the railway line is basically impossible for a multitude of reasons, and that's not down to local government. And any failures in delivery will be from central government. WYCA/LCC are desperate for trams but central government are wanting to slow it down
January 9, 2026 at 3:31 PM
I just saw your comment about the old train line after posting the video about it!
