#parkchat I remember seeing Postpile as a kid. Fascinating place!

#parkchat I’ve heard that seismometers in that area record the vibrations of bison stampeding across bridges.

#parkchat I am so glad that you got to have that experience. Encounters like this stay with you. 🦬

#parkchat every herd is different. Personally I think the herds in Yellowstone are far more assertive in road spaces than in most other places, probably due to their sheer herd sizes.

#parkchat what a wonderful thing to be involved in!

#parkchat Yes, in many places actually. Just not in cutthroat spawning areas, etc.

#parkchat on a related note, I am about to launch into reading Muir’s collected works. Assuming you’ve read him. Is there a favorite essay you would suggest I begin with?

#parkchat my brain saw the bison on the left in your photo as having a horse tail! 🤭

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

#parkchat i don’t like visiting in Mammoth Hot Springs in the autumn because of the crazed bull elks ramming vehicles, etc. Scary!

#parkchat personally I would love to see the Kentucky bluegrass removed from the Mammoth Hot Springs area. It would solve other problems (like people encountering a lot of elk…during rut…with whirling tines of death and an attitude…)

Q12 #parkchat Do you have any announcements to share? If not, please share something that is on your bucket list for your next parkland visit - a trail to hike, a lodge to dine in, a lake to paddle. Where will your next adventure take you? Thank you for participating in tonight’s chat!

#parkchat we had a similar experience with skunks at Capitol Reef. They would brush by our legs as we were sitting at the picnic table.
