In Spain, there are 3,500 km of disused rail lines restored into walking and cycling trails under the Vías Verdes ('Greenways') program. The 40 km Carrilet Greenway is one such route; winding from Girona to the Mediterranean coastline through the scenic foothills of the Pyrenees.
