The novel offers insight into a hidden aspect of Chinese history, it is a powerful story of female bonds, cultural expectations, and the sacrifices women make for survival.

I enjoyed the way the novel portrays how women found ways to support each other despite societal constraints. I was expecting more on how they communicated through nu shu, the secret women’s writing system.

Ella es realmente experta en hacer ese vínculo entre lo profundo, lo importante y lo cotidiano. Hay tantas frases que recuperar de este libro, que es mejor regresar al libro muy a menudo. Si me tarde en leerlo es porque no se debe leer “de corrido”, hay que saborearlo, pensarlo, compartir las ideas.
