these days, I'm dedicated to immigrants and Palestinians. I'm trying my hardest to make space for all the others I typically cover, but man, it's hard. this moment requires all hands on deck. I believe in us. in that utopia we all dream of.

so many ppl need our love and attention as reporters right now: ppl who are Black, Indigenous, Palestinian, Muslim, trans, queer, poor, disabled, unhoused, incarcerated.

in this moment where the federal govt is actively fueling the climate crisis AND criminalizing and stripping immigrants of their rights, we enviro reporters have a DUTY to tell stories that connect those issues.

so much didn't even make it into the story. the migrant farmworkers who go to NC for every apple season. the storm isolated them & cut off power. the mixed-race family (w/ white mamas) who just moved into a flood zone worried for their brown kids' futures.

immigrants have long been uniquely vulnerable to hurricanes. western north carolina, however, doesn't have many Spanish resources for its Latine immigrants.
