So I got extra excited when Lungmying submitted "The Mirror of the Mung" in response to our call for stories for The Blaft Book of Anti-Caste SF.

Lungmying is a budding author & storyteller (just 19 when she submitted the story!) who's committed to preserving and popularizing (10/n)

"‘The Blaft Book of Anti-Caste SF’ offers us various lenses through which to see #caste society, and from there to confront it. It is through the unreal that the harshest realities are made most visible."

The present and deep past of anti-caste speculative fiction

I have watched Nobuhiko Obayashi's early 8mm & 16mm shorts lately. Though they are mostly experimental exercises in 'editing' and 'filming'-- you can see his brilliance and his editing style. 👍👍

I'm rewatching the original 'Mobile Suit Gundam' (1979) by Yoshiyuki Tomino sensei & remembered how each episode shows that it's the women, children, and youth who suffer from the war. The atmosphere is very melancholic, you don't know if the heroes won or lost by the end of each episode

I’m no filmmaker. I haven’t made anything. But for me, filmmaking represents hope, a truth among deception. But as the world is slowly becoming hell— I have to agree with the protagonist that I’m too losing faith in filmmaking. I fear I may end up having nothing to cling on in this world.
Yesterday I watched Nagisa Ōshima’s ‘The Man Who Left His Will on Film’. The world is in turmoil & people lost faith in the government. it takes place in the middle of the 1968 Japan student protests— and revolves around a man reconstructing a film for answers, for truth. 👍👍

I reread Satoshi Kon’s OPUS after a long time, for some inspiration! I totally forgot how he weaves the narrative effortlessly— between the reality & fiction. The (unfinished?) ending made me weep, now I’m having difficulty to sleep. Satoshi Kon left a deep impression on me🫶😭👍

Definitely a case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts, the exhaustive anthology is a mostly strong collection, writes Devarsi Ghosh.

I can now officially say that Absolute Martian Manhunter, thanks to your overwhelming response, has been extended to 12 issues. @javierrodriguez.bsky.social and Hass and I are all super excited. Every issue will be by the same creative team, no fill ins. :) It's going to be great.
