Best understood, Labour's attack on juries, as a further lurch towards authoritarianism. Who, now, will stand in the way of a State that wants to imprison its opponents?

Was trying to work out in which way Shabana Mahmood, an otherwise pretty unremarkable politician, could possibly be described as a "luminous golden star" who "dazzles like a blue-white supernova" and then I realised, its simply a willingness to be a bit more cruel to immigrants

@cesea-libdems.bsky.social AGM 2025 done & dusted. Elected Chair for 2026. Decided to stand again, knowing it'll be a busy 2026 for the AO on top of my dual councillor duties etc.

Huge thanks to my amazing exec

The current government is so short sighted and blinkered, blindly, following far right ideologies.

Now, Keir is using tax payers' money to go to China to brown nose them????

Hong Kong was fought for by the British government and through the hard work of many migrants to HK and their descendants. Hk became one of the fastest growing economy in the world.

Yes, life wasn't a bed or roses, it never is. But, it worked. HK consisted of many migrants, too.

Really? Nice not to be able to think independently, NOT.

This is not about conspiratorial theory. When you brown nose a fascist dictatorship, the consequences are dire.

We should share with migrants about UK politics. Liberal Democrats led the way when we presented to HK BN(O) groups before the local elections in 2023. @cesea-libdems.bsky.social

One student came in late and heard me teaching the class about north east south west.

He asked if I was teaching them how to play mahjong in English.

I think I should have a mahjong session with them in English. 🤣🤣🤣

I struggled to find the right word in Cantonese to describe a rugby scrum. Brought a lot of laughter amongst my HK migrant students.

One joked how did I become a journalist with the lack of vocabulary. I quipped - that's why I was an English language journalist and not a Cantonese/Chinese one. 🤣🤣

Can the government to think through things before making stupid announcements? I know common sense is not common, but...you know.

Many HKBN(O) migrants in their 50s moved here & bought properties outright with cash. They don't have a salary as they opted for early retirement. I'm one of them.

However, I started doing community work, as an English teacher (volunteer) to migrants & is a a Parish & Borough Councillor.

There are still questions regarding the Hong Kong British National (Overseas) visa route. It's very simple, home secretary, leave it as it is. No retrospective changes/moving through goal post/s.

Most HKers moved lock, stock & barrel to UK.

Huge thank you to our Lib Dem MPs. We also need to ensure that the terms in the initial HK BN(O) offer will not change. No more moving of the goal post.

Racism or reverse racism, they are both unacceptable. There are also so many messages from UK people welcoming migrants, I'm touched.

Inclusivity and diversity are crucial in today's world, its what makes it interesting.

Jonn's political ranting is always good: go for that and stay for the bits about my favourite shark 🖤🦈
"The idea of deporting people with settled status is disgusting, and anyone proposing it should be immediately drummed out of polite society. Breaking promises made in good faith to our friends and neighbours is racist, extremist and immoral."

I'm basically shouting at the sky here, but still.
It’s racist, it’s extremist and it’s immoral
The right is still calling for deportations, and the government is still being cowardly about it. Also: London’s first green belt; some notes on a shark; and some news, on my next book.
