We had a nice but cold stroll in the park next to our apartment today, spotted a #goldcrest and #kingfisher among a few other regulars.

Me and my son looking out over the pond at the birds, there were a bunch of gulls, a heron, a cormorant, ducks and a kingfisher that zoomed over the water.

If only I had my real camera with me when I walked through the #waterwingebied on my way home. Heron and Kingfisher right next to each other. (hard to spot, but in the reeds just to the right.) Guess this phone photo will be my only proof.

Great Egret (Ardea alba) that just caught a small fish. Barnacle goose (Branta leucopsis) in the grass between pruning sessions so its feathers are still a little puffy. Three Northern lapwings (Vanellus vanellus) in some shallow water. The iridescent green and purple on their wings comes out nicely in the sunlight. Three mute swans (Cygnus olor) flying low above the water.

"Which one of you insulted my brother?"

This #Cormorant was hopping the poles closer and closer to the #gulls until it chased them away, a very comical spectacle to witness and reminded me of that shot I took a little over 2 weeks ago.

Same field, 2 hours apart!
Fall migration is awesome; in early spring I was excited to have been able to see a single #NorthernLapwing, but last Friday there were fields full of them, hundreds or thousands all grouping up to head south soon.

Common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) or Torenvalk in Dutch. "Praying" before making a dive towards its prey in the field. Common buzzard (Buteo buteo), Buizerd in Dutch. Flying over a field with geese and lapwings. This buzzard has a very light plumage on its body compared to the average ones I've spotted so far. Common kestrel (Falco tinnunculus) or Torenvalk in Dutch. A successful hunt, the prey held tightly in its talons. Common buzzard (Buteo buteo), Buizerd in Dutch. Sitting on a metal fence, behind it on a lower fence sits a wood pigeon, seemingly unafraid, did it pay for protection money or is it just lacking survival skills?
