I remember my first (short) bit of Z80 machine code working first time, then reading that self-modifying code was not a good thing and spending AN ETERNITY (couple of hours) rewriting it to not self-modify.

Oh... I remember the smell of mine, and the magical worlds that opened up as I sat cross legged on the floor for hours in front of the only TV set we had.
I miss the ZX80, but mostly I miss the ability to sit like that for hours and then immediately stand up without using my hands.

In case you fear you have only engaged with engineering/topology nerds who appreciate the engineering/topology shown, this engineering/topology nerd has also tripped and fallen down the poetry enjambment rabbit hole for the rest of the day 👍

If you hear a loud noise, it might be my head exploding.
This is absolutely amazing - I feel I'm 12 again (in a marvelous way)!
Thank you so much for posting.

As a lover of graphic representations of data, I find that a thing of immense beauty. I'm surprised I've not seen it before but perhaps I had my eyes down in the gutter - thank you very much for posting - yet another rabbit hole!

OK, I'll stop complaining about how tricky it is to get the paper-chains down.

Ah, no, I did mean the actor on the slab playing a corpse.
Or WAS he playing a corpse?

I expected anyone reading my words to grunt in very mild and begrudged amusement, or possibly snort if I was really lucky.
You confirm I had the right idea about my message, but that I completely failed to achieve any level of amusement with it - nil points to me. Thank you for the feedback.

Hugh Laurie has let himself go a bit.

Yes - it's moved into silly action movie sequel territory immediately. If I was a watcher who'd been asked to arm myself, I'd be... seeking clarification? Asking my boss' boss if they knew what was going on? But then I'd just be informing the bad guys and it would end with ep 1. 🙂

"A bit samey (A river! behind some trees!)" 🤣

With only minor tweaking you could use this review for...
Grand Canyon... "A bit samey (A river! In a canyon!)"
Cornish Coastal Path... "A bit samey (the sea! Down a cliff!)"
Khyber Pass... "A bit samey (Mountains! Valleys!)"
...

Oh jeez... having read your post yesterday, today I log on and see "christhebarker OBE" and I thought "What? Did I miss something in the news?" and was just about to google it.
I must try getting more sleep.

I'm imagining this being said by Julian Clary and it's amusing me greatly.

Have a good Hogmanay, and may 2026 be happy, healthy, and financially sound for you, your family, Dave, and everyone else around you. And good luck with book #2 (my order is in place)!

Because she's french and they have bizarre queuing etiquette - she knows she's way back at the end of the line but has chosen to stand (sit) there?
Or... the BB pictured there isn't the much later B the F, but the earlier film icon, known to millions (of whom many have since died themselves)?

In a very limited attempt to find out what on earth you might be referring to (I don't get out much), I did discover that it should probably be spelt "whose bag is whose" as "who's" is a contraction of "who is" or "who has" and not the possessive. Who knew?

Just after the photo was taken he stood up and you see he's in an armchair costume with a tiny fabric replica of his body stitched to the front, with the feet only reaching to his knees.

You'll regret that on Christmas day when you get the inevitable present that didn't have MDF included.

You'll be making individual stickers from now until 31st.
