The amount of varied, fabricated excuses I saw pardoning Clair Obscur's use of AI art was absurd

"contractors did it" "it was an asset they bought they didn't know" "They patched it out it's fine" "it was just one rogue artist" or the ever present "who cares" when something they love is attacked

In recent memory this is the 3rd game caught using so called "placeholder" AI generated work

The alters did it, this did it, & Clair Obscur did it

Though one of these got away with it with almost no recognition because it was critically acclaimed

technically i won't run out of LaD games but the only ones i'll have left other than lost judgment will be infinite wealth and pirate yakuza and i am so absurdly extremely not vibing with the tone of the latter two to the point that i've accepted that the series stopped being for me after gaiden

video gaming (got the "Love Prevails" ending; i don't know Exactly how much this decides beyond the outcome, but it did seem fairly substantial? i don't see how half the things in the last ~2 hours would happen if i'd taken a different path)

gacha shit has snuck into the mainstream *uncomfortably* for years now. i already felt like i was going insane when everyone suddenly started streaming and drawing fanart and whatnot for like, genshin impact and its 100 other spinoffs or whatever else there is these days, as if it was just. normal

you are enamored with them because the developers want you to be, because if youre not gonna spend money then the next person seeing your art or gushing or whatever is going to. is it that weird to be put off by that shit

i dunno maybe Im wrong here because ive seen even the most otherwise reasonable people react to that with 'what you want us to stop having fun? you hate fun?' or get weirdly defensive or frame it as a good thing but like... no, its not, it is literally characters from The App Designed To Suck Money

it *is* an interesting story premise tbf, but something about the character writing also kind of rubs me the wrong way but i cant place what exactly

i guess i can accept that it's just a Story First kind of game, but it feels like there isnt really much here other than that, so far
