Goldfinches dropping in to visit the feeders during a calm spell earlier, glinting in the sunlight. Blustery winds prevail though, the privet and hawthorn hedges with dancing arms like a troupe of ballerinas.

Sharing the moment when I spotted this gorgeous Long-Tailed Silky Flycatcher eating berries in the pouring rain. We'd stopped for coffee on our journey back to the airport in Costa Rica so to see it then was so special! 💛 📷 🪶

A photograph of a Long-Tailed Silky Flycatcher, a predominantly grey-blue coloured bird, with a yellow head and brighter yellow ring around its eye. The bird is in side profile looking to the left as viewed... it is on a shrub where it had been eating the blue green berries. A thrush size bird, that is related to waxwings. We have all enjoyed a lovely summer but with tragic consequences as
"we are shockingly underprepared for such extremes here in the UK."

We should all take a leaf out of Jane Goodhall's book. RIP compassionate person.

A flash of the curtains disrupted the breakfast party and the first recognisable bird, by its rising fantail, was a collared dove.
Lovely dedication, Hannah. We must all ensure her messages echo on through the ages. 💚🕊

England's King Harold defeated and killed brother Tostig & Harald Hardrada, King of Norway, at Stamford Bridge near York on this day 1066. Days later Harold was defeated by William of Normandy at Hastings, shifting England’s political focus from Scandinavia to western Europe.

The Anglo-Scottish border, first agreed at the Treaty of York on this day 1237, has proved one of Europe’s most enduring national land boundaries. The only modifications have been to the 'Debatable Lands’ north of Carlisle and to Berwick-upon-Tweed, retaken by England in 1482.

At the front bluetits happily enjoying their habitation under a pink tinged sky. Whilst at the back a kite determinedly hunts in the corner of the cornfield, scattering all the wood pigeons far and wide and annoying four carrion crows, determined to see it off their territory.
