Businesses do pay tax before dividends are paid to shareholders, it's called Corporation Tax. Companies like Amazon etc use clever accounting techniques and unintended loopholes to reduce their tax bill as low as possible. It's that which needs addressing imo.

So a company with a turnover of £10m but profits of 100k will pay more tax than a company with a turnover of 500k and a profit of £250k. How is that fair?

Initially yes, that would be the case, but once the phone was switched on again the police would have been alerted of a potential fraudulent theft claim which had a high chance of arrest/prosecution.

Never really cropped up in our house, but I've just asked my southern wife and apparently its lunch and dinner, whereas I say dinner and tea. I wouldn't mind but she's lived in Yorkshire for 35 years now and has added the words anall and nowt to her vocabulary, so there's no excuse!
