If it's a task thats too difficult and lack of motivation to complete it, then you can teach him to have a choice between two difficult tasks and show him a reward chart he can choose a reward from and the more difficult the task, the higher the reward.

So I would recommend teaching them skills on learning how to ask for more time from others to given time to think of an answer and to teach him a set amount of time for them to approach him again for the response from him.

But I always tell them, just practice it and it's okay if you have days where it's harder for you to have longer latency in responding, because your brain and your ADHD is different everyday and things in your environment will effect it also, e.g. lack of sleep.

Yep. You have to. Its the part of executive functioning that affects processing speed, so it looks like theyre spacing out or ignoring their teachers. When in reality they're just thinking about 10k things connected to the question lol. Now, I will teach the kids & adults some skills to improve it.

Yep. This is how executive functioning is in ADHD. I literally have advocated at IEP meetings for my child clients w/ADHD to have written in their IEP for their teachers to give them a longer latency for responding to their teachers during class, because the kids get in trouble for it.

Yep. White women are one of my top 5 reasons why I decided to open my own private practice as a Black woman MH clinician. I was golden as long as I didn't step out of "line" to them.

One of my top 5 best days was when I put in my notice & told them my practice was starting to do well. It was 🩷🩷🩷
