The team’s data also included evidence of likely sexual coercion by European men during the colonial period, between the 16th and 19th centuries: Seventy-one percent of Y chromosomes, which are passed down by men, come from people with European ancestry,

It’s an event the researchers say they detected in their results, with more ancestry of these countries showing up around the time in their analysis.

After the abolition of slavery in 1888, the Brazilian government encouraged Europeans—mainly from Italy, Spain, Germany, and Portugal—to immigrate there in part to “whiten” the country and prevent the Black population from becoming a majority.

At the same time, the number of people with African ancestry swelled as slavers brought them to the country to work on plantations. As these populations grew, however, the number of Indigenous Brazilians plummeted because of disease, warfare, and displacement.

The team’s analysis also tracked admixture patterns over the past 250 years. Genetic mixing between different groups peaked between the 18th and 19th centuries, a period marked by the gold rush and diamond exploration, in which Europeans migrated en masse to Brazil.

That’s a very different makeup from what has been found in other Latin American countries. In Mexico City, for example, one study estimated that the population has 66% Indigenous, 31% European, and 3% African ancestries.

The researchers traced an ancient migratory journey that began in Africa, proceeded through North Asia and ended at Tierra del Fuego in modern-day Argentina, which is considered the final boundary of human migration on Earth.

But then again they've lost their interest in the genetic genealogy community many years ago, a decision that was wrong IMO.

Health never turned out to be a plan where they could make a profit from and corporate greed made sure whatever money was going in landed in a few pockets only.

23andMe has an unique selection of users, as most of them bought the DNA test for the health reports and not ancestry. So it was absolutely worth it to dig into that very different pool of matches. Their chromosome browser was also the best in the industry and their Admixture tools are best too.

When you're looking at your family tree, click on the loupe icon at the navigation bar and enter the name of the person you're looking for.
It will then redraw the family tree with the person you have selected in the middle, ancestors to the right and descendants to the left.
