Is Social Web an NA, EU, Japan thing only? Or, the hold of Twitter / X, Facebook, and Instagram, are simply too strong?

For a country dubbed for 20 years as the SNS / Social Media capital of the world (Philippines) and a region with the highest SNS/SocialMedia users combined, the open Social Web footprint is practically non-existent.

There were also other country specific instances but only lasted less than a year: Indonesia, Thailand, and VietNam.

I haven't seen any since all of them closed down, most today are personal and friends-only instances.

There were two ASEAN instances also, one was powered by Misskey while the other Pleroma. One hosted in Malaysia while the other in Singapore.

There is also a conference next year called ATmosphere Conference 2026.

The network running ATproto protocol is called ATmosphere as Fediverse is to ActivityPub protocol.

Others pointed that a few months later that same year in 2013, Super Typhoon Yolanda ravaged Visayas.
