because the game doesn’t care. it doesn’t change anything. the main quest to the game is “find zelda” and you can do it before a single temple is done and the game. doesn’t. care. honestly i think BotW is a MUCH better game if we pretend TotK doesn’t exist at all.

by about a few words each. the shit going on in the four main regions is interesting? but a lot of it feels like BotW with a new coat of paint. why are all of the sages minus kinda tulin all characters with a decent amount of screen time in BotW? why are we even going to the same four cities?

decision not to, which most people don’t do on a first playthrough. so to sum up my thoughts on TotK’s gameplay the new world to explore (the non recycled parts) are empty because the majority of development time went to designing the new abilities which unfortunately are mostly underutilized

nintendo’s new philosophy for games seems to be “it’s your responsibility to fully utilize the mechanics we put in the game dipshit” which i think is core to my issues with the abilities in this game. players will always, always optimize the fun out of games unless they make the very conscious

so you can use them to fuse shit. it’s gameplay before worldbuilding, which is a nitpick but cmon it’s kinda immersion breaking for me. also recall is hugely underutilized and it and ascend are way too good at cheesing puzzles.

with ultrahand in combat! which is a real shame you can make so many cool ultrahand killing machines but they’re just so inefficient compared to a silver lynel saber horn fused to a pristine royal guard broadsword. also why did all the monsters get these weird weapon shaped head spikes?

of the first and only major things to find in the depths is an ability that just does it for you. smile. fuse. fuse solves a huge problem with BotW. now there’s a reason to engage in combat. to get monster parts. except not really because there’s no difference between a bokoblin horn and a boss

in my eyes because most of the point of an open world game is to explore the open world? and there’s so much opportunity for that to create fun problems for the player to solve but most of those problems are solved by two fans and a control stick! and just in case that’s too difficult one

just various recycled BotW content. why. i can only imagine all this stuff is because the majority of the development time went into designing link’s cool new abilities but those feel underbaked as well. ultrahand trivializes ALL the exploration in the game which is a horrendous design decision

explore the ruined corpses of the divine beasts, and they could even reuse assets if they wanted to and noone would care! like it doesn’t have to be that specifically just do ANYTHING with ANY of these awesome concepts please. why is all the stuff in the depths (awesome NEW CONTENT they kept secret)

the game unfortunately pretends BoTW never happened for the most part in favor of the fancy new ancient high tech race, which creates the massive plot hole of what the fuck happened to all the shiekah stuff? my leading theory multiple years later is it was first and foremost a game design choice

the set you immediately know what’s gonna be in the other two labyrinths. i think way too many of the armor sets in this game were recycled from BoTW. i would have preferred if there was armor with new textures that did the same thing idk? it would have made the whole thing feel more like a new game

like the only parts of the map that aren’t recycled are the emptiest part of the game i’m actually so mad about this. give me swamps with big poison water lakes you have to raft over, give me a mushroom forest that isn’t just recycled assets from BoTW (those mushrooms are ugly why are they so gray)
