The Druid! I wanted to keep as close as possible to the color scheme on the character card. White and blue are druid colors, apparently. Other than that, I'm getting a bit better at cloth. #talisman #miniatures

The Monk! "Come to the monastery... we have such... scriptures... To show you" in hindsight, I really should have given him eyelids. Eyes are hard #talisman #miniatures

The Assassin. I finished him on the weekend but didn't feel like posting him given the actual assassinations that have happened. So much death and despair lately. Be kind to each other.

The warrior! I feel a lot of things came together for this, and I feel a surge of encouragement! I learned about black lining from Anne Foerster, who I remember learning from when we were both a lot younger. It adds definition that was missing from the earlier pieces. #talisman #miniatures

Bouncing back from the elf, we have the Minstrel! I'm pleased with how it turned out. This mini taught me how to thin paints with flow improver, which really helped with the white stripes. The serial killer smile creeps me out though. #talisman #miniatures

The elf! Hoo boy. What can I say... Two steps forward, a leap backwards? Don't give up kitty! This mini almost made me give up. But I'm going to soldier on. It's a good thing nobody plays the elf. #talisman #miniatures

The thief! There's not much to say here. He's pretty small, either a tiny man or a halfling (does Warhammer have those?). With such limited real estate I focused on getting the basics right, and I think I succeeded.

The ghoul! For some reason he's the only mini from the set with an actual base. Maybe he hocked his clothes to buy it. I'm getting more comfortable with layering and shading, but need a lot more practice. The shading on the back of his head is the wrong hue and too strong. #talisman #miniatures

The Troll. Hooo boy, do not look directly at it. He looks like he's about to sew his own costume and yell WHERE'S FRANCIS at the other minis. Layering is turning out to be a challenge. At least trolls can get away with looking like they have a terminal skin disease. #talisman #miniatures

The dwarf! It was fun painting him, I always did like metallic paints. My brush control is shit, and it shows. I've also got to practice paint thinning. I tried Nuln Oil on the armor and.... Ehhhh. It did the job but I wasn't blown away, I wanted it more intense.

I did some research online and Vallejo seemed the logical choice. Highly rated by nearly everyone. Proacryl was also recommended, but I preferred the more compact and larger range of Vallejo.

I started off by painting the toads once I got my paints. I tried a bunch of different techniques and asked my son and spouse which one they liked. They both liked the triangle based one, which was the simplest, technique-wise.

I'm getting back into miniature painting after a long hiatus (30 years!) I still have the first mini I ever painted, which was from one of those old 'learn to paint kits' from Reaper:
