After six months away following my dad’s passing, I’m slowly returning.

This new painting is about childhood, featuring the boy from my Starboy piece.

If you had a key to return to your childhood… would you take it?
A digital painting of a boy with short dark hair, eyes closed in a calm expression. He wears a white shirt with a blue embroidered vest. He holds a golden key in his cupped hands. Large pink peonies surround him, filling the frame. The colours are predominantly pink, purple, and blue, creating a soft, dreamlike mood. Oh, I agree wholeheartedly - especially if I'm the one entertained haha

Now that's something I'd like to see

What did you do this time?

Wait until this guy needs to hire a plumber. He's in for a good time.

Then there is the added hypocrisy that men have been using their own image to market their paintings since the art market was a thing and no one said anything about that.
ysvyri.bsky.social
You're welcome. The idea that women who appear alongside their art are either "dumb" or "advantaged" is a slippery slope. Attractiveness is subjective—who decides who gets to show up? There are far bigger problems in the world than this ridiculous nonsense.
ysvyri.bsky.social
Ah I see. Must be a miscommunication. I mean, I guess people can connect with it more easily that way so it tracks.
ysvyri.bsky.social
I get that the algorithm rewards certain factors, but I was asking more about the idea of 'validity' based on your first comment. Do you think an artist's attractiveness should have any bearing on how their art is perceived? Or is the issue more about frustration with how socmedia skews visibility?
ysvyri.bsky.social
These two examples are not really comparable because resin pours are easily salable and don't require much to fit into a home whereas someone's deeply personal work that "appeals to a smaller crowd" might not. The identity is not a factor.
ysvyri.bsky.social
I mean someone's gender identity has nothing to do with it, considering you can be conventionally attractive AND nonbinary and trans, right? They're not mutually exclusive lol
ysvyri.bsky.social
Does the art skill have to match the attractiveness of the artist to be valid or?
ysvyri.bsky.social
It goes something like "How dare you be attractive to me, standing next to your painting. You dumb woman, how am I supposed to concentrate on the work now?"

Kinda stinks.
ysvyri.bsky.social
I'm seeing this opinion a lot lately and I feel like there's some kind of sexist argument to be made here but I am too tired and too over it to make it.
ysvyri.bsky.social
at that point It's a diff of opinion on what art is and/or a sniffy purist attitude. I don't think people would look down their noses at artists who said "Here's what I make in a year off prints and here's what I make working part time as a florist. You too can do the same with a part time job."
ysvyri.bsky.social
Indeed, if they're claiming to be making all their money off, say, selling prints but neglect to mention sponsors or ad rev, then sure. But, if they do mention those things even if it is "content creation" in some people's eyes, then I think there is nothing amiss >>
ysvyri.bsky.social
I think it gets sticky because art vs content creation is really subjective, and many people view themselves as making art or extensions of their art when others consider that content creation, I suppose.
ysvyri.bsky.social
Seeing this discourse bums me out a bit because I'm an 'art youtuber' and genuinely enjoying it. I see it as an extension of my art making.

I dunno, I think selling content is fine, it's just like supplementing the art with a part time job, because we all know art hardly makes money.
