Social media isn’t living up to what was promised, most social events are loud, drunken, or full of small talk, AI chatbots are being offered as a solution to loneliness, and so many communities feature folks talking at each other, but not actually talking with each other.

It took me years after moving to NYC to meet the right people and build genuine friends.

It got me thinking about how difficulty it is these days to creating meaningful friendships. For a time where we are so connected, we seem to be very apart.

I went to classes (wine tasting), courses (singing), and networking events (gaming), and while it was easy to MEET people, making meaningful connections was HARD. Social media was is progressively full of people talking AT you and not WITH you, then the pandemic happened.

I remember going out to random bars every night, sitting at the bar stools trying to strike up conversations, doing so many magic tricks, and then trying to convince folks (men and women) that I wasn't trying to hit on them.

The first year of moving to the USA was one of the most lonely years of my life.

When was the last time you tried to make new friends? And not friends of friends, or people through school or work, etc. Like... from scratch.
